The flaps in the intake manifold (swirl flaps) are controlled by an actuator with a position sensor. On the P2015, the sensor signal is out of line - the flaps are not where the computer placed them.
Average. The car is generally driven, sometimes with less traction. Don't delay—on some engines, a damaged valve can drop into the cylinder.
Many diesel and gasoline engines with direct injection (often VW/Audi, Opel, Ford, BMW). Manifold, valves, actuator, sensor.
What does P2015 mean
The flaps swirl air at low rpm for better combustion and open at high rpm. Over time, deposits accumulate on them, the axle wears out, or the plastic arm between the actuator and the flaps breaks. Then the sensor shows a position that does not correspond to the command.
Symptoms
- Lamp "Check Engine"
- Weaker traction at low revs
- Rough idle, sometimes more smoke
- Usually no emergency mode
| Can it be driven?
Yes, but not for long. If there is a rattling sound from the manifold or the engine starts to run rough, stop - a loose valve or screw may be entering the engine.
Common reasons
- Broken plastic arm or link between the actuator and the flaps — the most common.
- Valves blocked by deposits, especially on diesels with EGR.
- Faulty actuator (electric or vacuum) or vacuum hose.
- Faulty position sensor, wiring or coupling.
How we diagnose it
- We inspect the arm and the actuator from the outside — often the damage is immediately visible.
- We activate the valves from the diagnostics and monitor the sensor signal.
- We check the vacuum or power supply to the actuator.
- In case of deposits, we dismantle the collector for cleaning or repairing the valves.
