The pressure sensor in the intake manifold (for turbo engines - the turbo pressure sensor) gives a signal that does not correspond to the revolutions, throttle position and atmospheric pressure.
Average. The car drives, but the mixture and turbo pressure are miscalculated — possible crash mode.
Petrol and diesel engines. MAP sensor, vacuum hoses, intake system, EGR.
What does P0106 mean
The computer compares the readings of the MAP sensor with what it expects. For example, when the engine is off, it should show atmospheric pressure, and when idling, it should show vacuum. If the values are illogical, records P0106. Low or high signal in the circuit are P0107 and P0108.
Symptoms
- Lamp "Check Engine"
- Rough idle, choppy on acceleration
- Loss of power, emergency mode in turbo engines
- Higher consumption or black smoke
| Can it be driven?
Yes, carefully. If the car goes into emergency mode or smokes, do not load it until diagnostics.
Common reasons
- Dirty sensor — oil and soot, especially on diesels with EGR.
- Cracked or dropped vacuum hose to the sensor.
- Intake system leak or after the turbo (see P0299).
- Faulty EGR valve, which remains open (see P0401).
- Wiring or coupling.
- Faulty sensor.
How we diagnose it
- We compare the reading of a dead engine with the atmospheric pressure.
- We check the hose, sensor and intake tract for leaks and carbon deposits.
- We look at the signal in real time under load and during a test drive.
- We measure the power supply and the mass of the sensor.
