P2002Particulate Filter (DPF) — Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1

Meaning

The computer measures the pressure difference before and after the DPF filter. With P2002, the difference is too small — the gases pass without the filter holding them, or the sensor reads incorrectly.

Urgency

Average. The car is normally driven, but it can go into emergency mode, and the damaged filter leaks soot and does not pass inspection.

It affects

Diesel engines with DPF. Differential pressure sensor, hoses, filter.

What does P2002 mean

The particulate filter traps the soot and periodically burns it off (regeneration). When it's clogged, the pressure difference is big — then it comes out P2463. P2002 is the opposite: the difference is almost zero, as if there is no filter. This points to a leaky filter or the sensor and its hoses.

Symptoms

  • "Check Engine" lamp or DPF indication
  • Black smoke or soot in the exhaust
  • Emergency mode
  • Fail technical inspection for smokiness

| Can it be driven?

Yes, to the service station. If the car is in emergency mode, avoid long journeys.

Common reasons

  1. Faulty differential pressure sensor.
  2. Cracked, disconnected or clogged hose to the sensor — the most common and cheapest reason.
  3. Cracked or removed filter — the ceramic is cracked from overheating during regeneration.
  4. Exhaust leak in front of the filter.

How we diagnose it

  1. We look at the pressure of the DPF at idle and at high rpm.
  2. We check the hoses and tubes to the sensor.
  3. We test the sensor.
  4. We check the filter for cracks and soot after it and look for the cause of overheating — EGR (P0401), nozzles, turbo.
