The computer calculates that there is more soot in the DPF filter than allowed, and automatic cleaning (regeneration) does not help.
Medium to high. If too clogged, regeneration can no longer be done on the road and the filter must be cleaned or replaced.
Diesel engines with DPF. Filter, sensors, EGR, nozzles, driving style.
What does P2463 mean
The DPF filter traps soot and periodically burns it at high temperature. For this, the car must be driven for several minutes at higher revs — for example, on the highway. On short city trips, regeneration stops, soot accumulates and P2463. comes out. The opposite problem - the filter does not hold anything - is P2002.
Symptoms
- Lamp for DPF or "Check Engine"
- Power loss, emergency mode
- Fan runs after shutdown, higher idle (attempted regeneration)
- Increased cost
| Can it be driven?
Yes, but not for long. If the light has just come on, 15–20 minutes of steady out-of-town driving is sometimes enough for regeneration. If it doesn't go out or the car is in emergency mode, come to a service center — forced regeneration with diagnostics is much cheaper than a new filter.
Common reasons
- Short city trips only — regeneration fails to complete.
- Faulty EGR valve (P0401) — more soot from the engine.
- Worn or leaking nozzles.
- Turbo problem (P0299) or the air — incomplete combustion.
- Defective sensor for filter pressure or temperature.
- Unsuitable oil — the ash from it clogs the filter forever.
How we diagnose it
- We read the accumulated soot, the ashes, and the history of regenerations.
- We check the sensors and the reason for more soot - EGR, nozzles, turbo.
- We do a forced regeneration with the diagnostics if the filter allows.
- If not, clean or replace the filter.
