The crankshaft sensor tells the computer the rpm and the exact position of the pistons. For P0335, the signal is missing or electrically incorrect.
High. Without this signal, most engines will not start or stop while driving.
Petrol and diesel engines. Sensor, wiring, gear (reactor) on the crankshaft.
What does P0335 mean
The sensor "reads" the teeth of a wheel on the crankshaft or flywheel. By them, the computer knows when to inject and ignite. If the signal disappears, the motor stops. Often, the damage first manifests itself when warm — the sensor heats up and cuts out, then cools down and the car starts again.
Symptoms
- The engine turns but does not start
- Goes out on the road, often on a warm engine
- Tachometer does not move when ignition is on
- Stuttering and interruptions in revolutions
| Can it be driven?
Not recommended. The car can stall on the road — you lose power steering and brakes. If it has gone out once, bring it with a repatrak.
Common reasons
- Faulty sensor — from heat, vibration or oil in the clutch.
- Broken or frayed wire, oxidized coupling.
- Metal particles or dirt on the magnetic sensor.
- Damaged Gear (Reactor) on the crankshaft or flywheel.
- Incorrect clearance after repair - the sensor is too far from the wheel.
How we diagnose it
- We check whether the computer reads revolutions when rotating with the starter.
- We measure the power supply, mass and signal, if necessary with an oscilloscope.
- We look at the sensor and the gear.
- We check the wiring to the computer — both cold and warm.
