The computer adds more fuel to the second side of the V- engine and has reached the limit of the correction. There is air entering the cylinders that is not metered, or the fuel is low.
Average. The car drives, but the lean mixture overheats the engine and causes misfires.
V- engines (V6, V8). Intake, vacuum hoses, flow meter, fuel system.
What does P0174 mean
"Bank 2" is the side of V-1 Cylinderless Engine. P0174 means that country is running on a lean mixture. If at the same time there is and P0171 for bank 1, the cause is almost always common to the engine - flow meter, fuel pressure or intake leak. If it's just P0174, we're looking for something on that side — a manifold gasket or 2 bank nozzles.
Symptoms
- Incandescent lamp "Check Engine"
- Rough idle
- Stuttering and poor throttle response
- Misfires (P0300)
| Can it be driven?
Yes, briefly. If the car shakes or the light flashes, stop and have it serviced.
Common reasons
- Vacuum leak — hose, intake manifold gasket, crankcase ventilation.
- Dirty flow meter (P0101) — especially if it's along with the P0171.
- Low fuel pressure — filter, pump, regulator.
- Clogged nozzles of bank 2.
- Exhaust leak in front of the lambda probe of bank 2.
How we diagnose it
- We compare the fuel corrections of both sides at idle and revs.
- We are looking for a vacuum leak with a smoke test.
- We check the flow meter and fuel pressure.
- We check the nozzles and muffler of bank 2.
