Idle, speed, oil and power supply

P0507Idle speed is higher than expected

Meaning

The computer tries to hold a certain idle speed, but the real ones are higher and it cannot lower them.

Urgency

Low to medium. The car is driven, but the consumption is growing, and with an automatic box, the car "pulls" forward in place.

It affects

Gasoline engines. Throttle valve, idle valve, vacuum hoses.

What does P0507 mean

At idle, the computer adjusts how much air enters past the closed throttle. If air is getting into the engine by another route — a leak, a stuck valve — the revs stay high. The opposite — too low revs — is P0506.

Symptoms

  • High revs in place, for example above 1000–1200
  • "Floating" revolutions
  • The car with an automatic transmission pulls forward when braking
  • Hissing from the engine compartment (leakage)

| Can it be driven?

Yes. It's not urgent, but with an automatic box, be careful when stopping and parking.

Common reasons

  1. Vacuum leak — hose, manifold gasket, brake booster (often and P0171).
  2. Dirty throttle valve or unadapted after cleaning.
  3. Faulty idle valve (P0505) on older cars.
  4. Defective sensor for throttle position (P0121).
  5. Incorrect temperature reading — the computer keeps "cold" revolutions.

How we diagnose it

  1. We look at the desired and actual revolutions and the position of the throttle.
  2. We're looking for a vacuum leak.
  3. We clean the throttle valve and make an adaptation with the diagnostics.
  4. We check the throttle and temperature sensors.
