P0135Lambda probe (bank 1, probe 1) — the heater

Meaning

The front lambda probe has a built-in heater to start working quickly after ignition. In the P0135, the computer detects an open circuit or abnormal current.

Urgency

Low. The car drives normally. In the cold, the mixture is managed less accurately and consumption increases slightly.

It affects

Gasoline engines. Lambda probe, fuse, relay, wiring.

What does P0135 mean

The lambda probe only works properly when it is hot. The heater heats it up in seconds after ignition. If the heater is interrupted, the probe heats up slowly from the gases and the computer records P0135. For the rear probe, the same P0141.

Symptoms

  • Lamp "Check Engine"
  • Slightly increased consumption, especially for short trips
  • Increased cold engine emissions

| Can it be driven?

Yes. The repair is not urgent, but as long as the light is on, you will not see another, more serious error.

Common reasons

  1. Burnt heater in the probe — the most common reason; the probe is replaced.
  2. Blown fuse or faulty heater relay.
  3. Corroded or melted wire to the exhaust.
  4. Oxidized clutch.

How we diagnose it

  1. We check the fuse and the power supply of the clutch.
  2. We measure the resistance of the heater.
  3. We check the wiring to the computer.
  4. We change the probe and erase the code with a test drive.
